DreamBazaar

Can Bora

storytelling

DreamBazaar reflects on otherness, and the human need for trust and safety within a world shaped by extreme individualization and isolation.

DreamBazaar is a performance inspired by the absurd world of Samuel Beckett. It tells the story of Adam, who is trying to grow the last plant left on Earth after the global warming crisis. This movement-based performance explores the practice of care and the effort required to nurture something fragile and vulnerable. Over time, the caregiver and the one being cared for begin to coexist, gradually becoming intertwined for a greater, possibly even erotic, and imminent purpose.

“Bora, like Beckett, does a smart thing: he first reveals the lie in order to talk about the truth." - Dr. Vasileios - Pavlos Kountouriotis (Scholar, Choreography and Performance Theorician)

DreamBazaar reflects on otherness, and the human need for trust and safety within a world shaped by extreme individualization and isolation. First presented in Turkey in 2020, the performance has since been invited to and presented at Amsterdam ADE, NDSM Treehouse, CREA, the Venice Open Stage Festival, and the International Sinopale Biennale.

Can Bora is a queer, interdisciplinary artist-researcher with a multidisciplinary academic background. Originally from Istanbul and based in Amsterdam, he holds degrees in Theatre Studies (Paris 3 - Sorbonne Nouvelle), Contemporary Dance (A.R.E.A.), and Performance Practices (ArtEZ).  His work is deeply rooted in exploring the somatic body as a tool for liberation, self-discovery, and self-emancipation, with a central focus on connectivity  —both within the self and to others and the broader ecological systems. He challenges traditional narrative structures and foster a deeper, more intimate connection between the audience and the body. His interdisciplinary approach combines philosophical frameworks, spirituality, and social activism, exploring themes of identity, societal influence, and the importance of fostering interconnectedness.
