Wild Woman – Part I: The Bone Collector
theater
Princess Isatu Hassan Bangura (1996) graduated as a multidisciplinary performance artist from the Toneelacademie Maastricht. Her work moves between ritual, theatre, music and visual storytelling, rooted in Vodun cosmology and West African spiritual traditions. She previously created Great Apes of the West Coast, in co-production with NTGent, ViaZuid and Likeminds, for which she received the Theo d'Or for most boundary-pushing performance and a nomination for the BNG Bank Theaterprijs 2024. It goes without saying that we at Meneer Otis are thrilled that this performer has found her way to our friends at arthouse LUX. We’d therefore like to recommend this performance:
Wild Woman – Part I: The Bone Collector
In Wild Woman, Princess brings to life the myth of La Loba in a physical, visual and musical performance. In this powerful story, found in Women Who Run With Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the Bone Woman collects the lost bones of wolves and sings them back to life with her soul voice: a metaphor for rediscovering our wild core.
Inspired by African spiritual traditions such as Vodun/Vodou, and fuelled by Afro-futuristic soundscapes, metal, rap and ritual, a mythical and dystopian world takes shape. Full of live music, trance, physicality and visuals. The audience becomes not merely spectator, but part of a collective act of healing and transformation. Wild Woman – Part I: The Bone Collector is a poetic and raw search for voice, body and soul in times of inner and social crisis. It is the first part of a diptych; part two tours in season 2027-2028.
